Sydney born photographer John Doughty
began his career
in 1980 working for one of Australia’s
leading commercial photographers and
became proficient in large format film
and studio lighting techniques. In 1986
he established Australia’s first
alpine photography businesses in the
Victorian Alps. John was asked to cover
the Skiing & Snowboarding World
Cup for Fuji. During the Australian
summer months his time was taken up
working for commercial clients in NYC
including Swatch Watch USA Rolling Stone
Magazine, and Bill Silva Presents in
San Diego.
A return to Australia in 1990 saw John
establishing a thriving studio photography
business catering to the burgeoning
IT industry. The focus of the business
was product and corporate portrait photography
for the likes of Apple, HP Compaq, DEC,
Microsoft, Symantec, Sony & Telstra.
At this time John photographed many
celebrities including established and
emerging talents, and also corporate
leaders. Often times given exclusive
access to some of the worlds most powerful
and celebrated people, including Bill
Gates, President Clinton, Tony Bennett,
Dolly Parton & Sting.
John diversified and adapted the business
to digital imaging in 1999 and has lived
the digital experience, researching
new techniques continuously. He recently
set up a new studio in Balmain, NSW,
including a three-sided cyclorama. He
is able to apply all his own equipment,
studio space and digital knowledge at
the drop of a hat, to complete any assignment
in a professional and expedient manner.
